Portraits of Past are back, playing LA fest with other reunited screamo bands, Kind of Like Spitting & more
Screamo pioneers Portraits of Past announced their first show in over 15 years and teased more, including a festival with The Spirit of Versailles, In Loving Memory, Kite Flying Society, and more.
Portraits of Past helped invent screamo as we know it with their classic, sole album, 1995’s 01010101, and their influence on screamo and post-hardcore has been consistently felt throughout the 30 years since that album’s release. That LP makes up the bulk of their self-titled 1996 discography compilation, which was given a vinyl reissue by Ebullition Records this year, and the band is also back for live shows! This will be the first year they’ve played since their brief 2008-2009 reunion.
Their first-announced show back is LA’s Your Renaissance festival on May 24 & 25 at The Bellwether, and when musician/music journalist Hank Shteamer asked the band in an Instagram comment if there was any chance of East Coast shows, they replied “sure.” Sounds promising!
Portraits of Past play day one of Your Renaissance, which also features reunions from a few other veteran screamo bands, including The Spirit of Versailles, In Loving Memory, and Kite Flying Society, plus newer bands like Widowdusk, Ghost Spirit, Massa Nera, and more.
Day two has the first show in ten years from indie-emo vets Kind of Like Spitting, plus Knumears, Habak, February, herlovebeheadsdaisies, Othiel, and more. See the poster with the full Your Renaissance lineup below, and get tickets here.
The Spirit of Versailles have one other show announced at the moment, a hometown show in Sioux Falls in April. In Loving Memory have a handful of other dates, including a NJ show on April 10 with Your Arms Are My Cocoon, herlovebeadsdaisies, At First At First, FearDorian, Dreamwell, and Pyre. Kite Flying Society are playing just four shows this year, including San Diego on May 25, Miami on May 30, and a TBA NY show on May 31. Kind of Like Spitting haven’t announced any other reunion dates yet.
