As spotted by Kotaku, a former Visual Arts employee who now works at Riot Games took to LinkedIn to sympathize with their former colleagues that were laid off. “PSVA let go of developers with decades of subject matter expertise; talent that will be extraordinarily difficult to recoup,” the post reads.
Kotaku’s sources claim that those who have been made redundant were working on canceled live service projects, including Bend Studio’s game. “This industry can be unpredictable, but the skill, experience, and passion of the people I worked with at PSVA are undeniable,” the LinkedIn post continues.
Separately, Malaysian outlet NMIA Gaming reported that PlayStation’s Kuala Lumpur studio lost at least 20 employees that they know of, including artists and project managers.
This is the second round of layoffs reported at PlayStation within a span of a month. In February, a former senior design technologist at Sony Interactive Entertainment claimed that “most” of their team was laid off.
Sony didn’t acknowledge February’s layoffs, and has yet to comment on the latest reports.
