With Hollywood and England still absorbing the departure of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson from the James Bond franchise, the Oscars paid tribute to 007’s longtime stewards with renditions of three of the series’ classic themes.

After a dance sequence set to Monty Norman’s iconic “Dr. No” theme and featuring “The Substance” star Margaret Qualley, Blackpink member Lisa took the stage to perform Paul McCartney’s theme from “Live and Let Die,” 51 years after it was first performed on the Oscar stage by Connie Stevens.

She was followed by Doja Cat with a cover of Shirley Bassey’s “Diamonds Are Forever,” taken from Sean Connery’s final Bond film. Finally, Raye took the stage to perform Adele’s Oscar-winning theme from “Skyfall.”

Last November, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson received the Academy’s Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award for their decades of work in charge of Eon Productions. The producers’ father and Bond series founder Albert R. Broccoli received the Thalberg Award in 1981.

Wilson and Broccoli took over running the Bond series from their father starting with Pierce Brosnan’s debut film “GoldenEye” in 1995. Thirty years and nine films later, they have handed over creative control over to Amazon Studios in a historic sale that ends their family’s six-decade reign over Britain’s most famous contribution to cinema.
