Netflix will reportedly spend around $18 billion in cash on creating content in 2025, and that’s just the start.
Speaking Wednesday at the 2025 Morgan Stanley Tech, Media & Telecom Conference, Netflix CFO Spencer Neumann says there is plenty of room to go further in the near future: “We’re not anywhere near a ceiling, I think we are still just getting started.”
If it holds, the $18 billion in spending would be up by around 11% from the $16.2 billion spent in 2024. Netflix ended 2024 with 301.6 million paid members worldwide with over 700 million people watching Netflix content.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, it landed 18.9 million net new global subscribers – double expectations. For the full year, the streamer added more than 41 million subscribers – way up from 29.5 million added in 2023.
Neumann adds that while the streamer is in about 40% of connected TV households around the world, it has only captured 6% of its addressable market and represents less than 10% of total TV viewing. Thus they see plenty of opportunity to grow.
2025 in particular is expected to be a banner year with new seasons of “Stranger Things,” “Squid Game” and “Wednesday”. Netflix is expecting around $43.5-44.5 billion in revenue for 2025.
