Filmmaker Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” could be split into two.
Deadline reports that the film is clocking in at a near four-hour cut with the two-part film option “on the table, but not a definite at this time”.
The film was notably absent from Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation yesterday; the title was mentioned, but no material was shown. At the time it wasn’t clear why, with speculation tied to the current legal issues his estate is dealing with.
Though still earmarked for October 3rd, many are still indicating the film is now pretty certain to be pushed to 2026. The trade suggests a key factor will be the availability of IMAX screens.
They also say “There are a lot of sign-offs here with Universal handling overseas and Japan sold separately.”
The film will star Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson, Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Miles Teller as John Branca, and more.
