Marvel’s X-Men Plans Are “Still Pretty Fluid”

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues on the big screen this weekend with the launch of “Captain America: Brave New World”.

Reviews might be tepid, but it helps set the stage for the new Avengers films and the eventual arrival of the X-Men with adamantium, the same virtually indestructible metal used in Wolverine’s claws, introduced to the MCU in the film.

While mutants have appeared in cameos (“The Marvels,” “Doctor Strange & The Multiverse of Madness”) or in major roles (“Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Ms. Marvel”), many believe the X-Men’s real coming out in the MCU will be “Avengers: Secret Wars”.

That film is due to shoot Summer 2026 for a May 2027 release, followed by a standalone “X-Men” film currently in development that is rumored to be targeting a late 2027 release.

Speaking with press to promote the new “Captain America,” Marvel producer Nate Moore explains to EW that after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019, there was a “cooling off period”. That is now over:

“Now that we can build the path towards X-Men, we want to start sprinkling in these things so that it doesn’t feel like you’re going to drink from a fire hose when that movie comes, so that the MCU starts to lay the groundwork for what could come.”

Moore adds that “our X-Men plans are still pretty fluid” so things are still subject to change and while they are determined to get them into the MCU, they do seem to be doing it in small steps for the moment.
