Keanu Reeves has given a very definite answer as to whether John Wick will return for more movies in the franchise.
The actor’s last appearance as the relentless killer was 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4, which saw him win his freedom from the control of mysterious organisation The High Table, although the ordeal would eventually cost him his life. The final scenes show confidant Winston (Ian McShane) at Wick’s grave, situated next to his wife.
Talking to Extra, Reeves was asked about the future of the franchise. “Oh my gosh, well there’s a version of it called Ballerina, which is in the John Wick world, and John Wick makes a brief appearance. So, other than that, I have no idea”.
When asked about any more direct sequels, he quipped: “You know, the character’s dead. He died in John Wick: Chapter 4“. He continued: “I know, in Hollywood you can… I know, I know, it’s the Hollywood story. Right now, there isn’t”.
Ballerina is set to be released June 6 in UK cinemas, and stars Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, a ballerina who is beginning to train in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma faction featured in previous films. Angelica Huston and Gabriel Byrne co-star, with Reeves and McShane to make appearances in the film, which is set between Chapters three and four of the main series.
Lance Reddick will also appear as concierge Charon, in his final screen appearance following his death in 2023.
Recently, another John Wick spin-off was revealed to be in the works, with Donnie Yen starring and directing. The action star said: “I try to do my best to bring something fresh to the franchise itself. I don’t want to bring down the expectations for the fans. I try to do my best, like always”.
