Jimmy Kimmel Says Trump Will Have to ‘Build a Wall to Keep Us in at This Point’ | Video

Jimmy Kimmel thinks President Donald Trump’s border wall may have a slightly different purpose during his second administration.

“[Vice President JD Vance] said that Trump still wants to finish that wall he campaigned on the first time. We’re back on that again,” Kimmel said on Thursday night’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “I don’t think we need to finish the wall. It feels like this administration is already doing a pretty good job of making sure no one wants to live here. They might have to build a wall to keep us in at this point.”

The border wall may feel like a throwback to a somehow less chaotic time, but it’s in the news again because of a visit Vance made to the U.S.-Mexico border earlier this week. While in Eagle Pass, Texas, the VP said the administration’s hope is to finish building the southern wall by 2029. Trump and his supporters have repeatedly said the purpose of the wall is to help decrease illegal border crossings into the U.S. as well as decrease drug trafficking between the two countries.

“We want to see fewer Americans dying of these terrible fentanyl overdoses. We’re going to apply as much leverage as possible to the Mexican government,” Vance told reporters on Wednesday.

Kimmel also gave an update about our northern neighbors. In Canada, many stores have been pulling American-made liquor from their shelves in protest to Trump’s tariffs. “This is a painstaking process for Canadians because they apologize to each bottle as they remove it off the shelf,” he joked.

“Can you believe we’re shaking down Canada? They must be so confused. We had such a good relationship,” the late night host continued. “It’s like we suddenly got hooked on meth and went to the apartment upstairs and yelled, ‘You got any money?'”
