Jeremy Renner Opens Up About Potential HAWKEYE Season 2 and Where the Story Would Go
Jeremy Renner isn’t ruling out a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the path to Hawkeye Season 2 isn’t without complications. In a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Renner addressed the swirling rumors of a follow-up season to his 2021 Disney+ series Hawkeye, which starred Renner alongside Hailee Steinfeld, Tony Dalton, and Florence Pugh. The big rumor is that Season 2 would be a gritty, The Raid-style storyline involving Clint Barton’s brother. Renner respoded that, saying:“Maybe some of that is true in there, I don’t know. We got into it, a little bit, sort of story-wise and stuff…Everybody is interested in it. “I’m like, ‘Yeah, yeah, of course, man, I wouldn’t say no to that.’ I think there are a lot of ideas — they’ve still got to figure a lot of things out.”While he kept things vague on plot specifics, Renner made it clear that he’s still interested in playing the character again even after he revealed his salary dispute with Marvel Studios.Renner recently revealed that Marvel offered him half of what he earned for the first season if he were to return. “I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.’…I didn’t ask for any more money, mind you. “Just pay me what I made made the first season. So it’s all disheartening that that didn’t happen, but that’s fine. I’m happy to let that go, because my body’s probably thanking me, time and time again, that I’m not doing it right now. But we’ll see.”Despite the pay cut controversy, Renner remains open to returning, especially if it supports a cause close to his heart. “I’m game to do it,” he told Horowitz, referencing how work like Hawkeye helps fund his RennerVation Foundation, which supports foster care and at-risk youth. It was also reported that Marvel may have offered Renner only half his salary because they knew “he’d turn them down so they wouldn’t have to make a second season of the show.”As for Avengers: Doomsday? Renner played it cool. He dodged questions about whether Clint Barton will make an appearance in Marvel’s next big team-up film, and no official confirmation has been made.So for now, Hawkeye’s quiver is still hanging on the wall, but Renner hasn’t locked it away just yet.
