Images of the Day – London Heathrow Airport hits a high note with Channel 4’s The Piano

UK. Today’s images come from London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, which recently swapped boarding calls for live music as it became the first airport to feature in Channel 4’s The Piano. 

The BAFTA-nominated music competition show filmed its latest episode in the busy check-in area, turning it into a concert hall for unsuspecting travellers.  

A Steinway piano – used during the shoot – now stands permanently in the terminal, inviting passengers to showcase their musical talent. The piano is accompanied by a plaque commemorating the partnership with Channel 4.

The Piano is hosted by Claudia Winkleman and features new judge, Grammy-winning artist Jon Batiste, alongside returning mentor Mika. The show is known for spotlighting raw talent in public spaces, including train stations such as Manchester Piccadilly and London Victoria.

Heathrow Terminal 5 Manager Dwayne Black said, “We’re proud to have been part of this exciting series, The Piano, and we’re thrilled to have a part of the show permanently installed in Terminal 5.  

“Music has the power to bring comfort, joy and connection – and with hundreds of talented people passing through Heathrow every day, we hope this new addition to the terminal helps make their journeys extraordinary.”

The Piano episode featuring London Heathrow will air on 11 May, presenting music and travel retail in perfect harmony.
