Ireland’s M(h)aol announce first album for Merge, US tour starts this weekend

Irish post-punks M(h)aol have announced a new album, Something Soft, which will be out May 16 via Merge. It’s their first for the label and was produced, mixed and mastered by the band’s Jamie Hyland.

The first single from the record is “DM:AM” which the band say “is about men DM’ing women online and then getting aggressive when they don’t get the response they want. They quickly turn to insults about the women, and then once the woman says she’ll expose what they’ve done, she gets a laundry list of reasons why he behaves like this and how much he has to lose, which is meant to make the women feel sorry for them.” Watch the video below.

M(h)aol are in the US for a short tour surrounding their appearance at SXSW in Austin. Their first show is at NYC’s TV Eye on Sunday (3/9) with Mallory Hawk. They also play Los Angeles and Seattle, and all dates are listed below.
