Feardemic is bringing us another in the growing line of “inspired by Steamboat Willie” horror titles, this time with Simon Lukasik‘s 1920s animation fever dream, Bad Cheese. In fact, Lukasik has released a demo for the game on Steam, which based on its content, is only a glimpse of the bizarre horrors you’ll experience.

Bad Cheese puts you in the tiny shoes of a mouse (who resembles a certain mouse that’s now public domain), who is spending the weekend at home with his dysfunctional Dad while Mom’s away. Your goal is to help around the house and be a good kid. That means cleaning around the house, making meals, killing spiders, and bringing your dad his pills.

Yes, while you will have to deal with demons and the like, you’ll also need to stay out of trouble and keep your Dad happy. That latter part is the main focus of the Bad Cheese demo. You’re in the bedroom (and adjacent rooms), trying to ensure your daddy can go to bed in peace. To achieve this, you’ll need to collect all of the food scattered about, find the hidden treasure, and put your daddy to sleep. All the while, you’ll need to avoid making him angry—it’s hard for him to sleep if he’s busy punishing you, after all.

The action (and horror) is all accentuated by hand-drawn art that has been combined with a 16mm film-inspired aesthetic. It really does make you feel as if you’re watching a deranged cartoon from the “golden era of animation”. No release date has been announced as of yet, but if you’re looking for a more horrific aesthetic than what Cuphead had to offer, this looks to be it.
