Inside Hypeform & House of Switzerland Milano's Design Week Opening Party
Last Monday, on the occasion of Milan Design Week, Hypebeast's design vertical Hypeform co-hosted the opening party for the House of Switzerland Milano. Taking place in the city's Brera district, the hotly anticipated exhibition took over the Casa degli Artisti for the duration of the week. To mark its opening, event organisers Pro Helvetia teamed up with Hypeform to host a party across the space, complete with food (including, but not limited to, Swiss cheese), drinks, and live DJ sets. This year marked the third edition of the show, which is curated by Marie Mayoly and Alexandre Edelmann. During the opening party, guests were invited to take a look around the show, which was founded three years ago with the aim of showcasing Switzerland's design credentials through the work of schools, emerging designers, and brands. For this year's edition, Mayoly and Edelmann set the curatorial theme of “Collaboration” – something the organisers describe as being typical of Swiss design. "Collaboration is part of the Swiss DNA," Mayoly said in an interview ahead of the show's opening."We are a small country, so we’ve always had to work with others," Edelmann adds. "Here, if you want to expand, you have to go abroad, so we have that culture of working with other people."Running late into the night, the party spilled out into the outside areas. The crowd featured press, curators, institution heads and most importantly, many of the designers featured in the exhibition. "The emerging talents are the heart of the project," says Mayoly. "We wanted to make sure to show the next generation of Swiss designers."The Hypeform x House of Switzerland Milano opening party took place during Milan Design Week on April 7.
