Images of the Day: Warsaw Chopin Airport goes interstellar with Star Wars campaign

Our regular feature, brought to you in association with Duty Free Global from Ireland, celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

POLAND. Our latest images come courtesy of Warsaw Chopin Airport, which is inviting guests to experience “an extraordinary journey into the world of Star Wars” from 25 April to 4 May. The project is a cooperation between Polish Airports (PPL) along with Disney, Lego and the Dressler publishing house.

The timing coincides with ‘Star Wars Day’ on 4 May, with ‘May the 4th’ phonetically resembling the famed film catch line ‘May the Force be with you’. On this day each year, Star Wars fans organise themed events and share their passion for the saga.

“Together we have created an event the aviation world has never seen before,” the airport company said in a statement.

The airport has opened special zones in the Terminal AB departure hall with Star Wars vehicles and characters from the franchise. After security control zone (at Gate 1), travellers encounter a Lego zone, where they can spend their time creatively building their own spaceship models.

On 4 May – International Star Wars Day – the campaign culminates in a series of attractions and references to the Star Wars universe. These include a 2m-high Lego figure of Darth Vader.

PPL Management Board Member for Strategy and Marketing Adam Sanocki said: “Warsaw Chopin Airport has always focused on exceptional traveller experiences. This time, we are going to a higher level and doing something absolutely unique on a global scale – on May 4th, on the occasion of Star Wars Day, we are turning our airport into an Intergalactic Space Port. We want our passengers to feel like they are part of this iconic saga and experience something truly incredible. It will be a spectacular celebration that they will remember for a long time.” ✈
