Guided by Voices’ Robert Pollard side project Rip Van Winkle announces debut album: hear “By the Water”
Rip Van Winkle is Robert Pollard backed by members of Cincinnati’s Joseph Airport. Guided by Voices also have a live album on the way.

While there hasn’t been a new Guided By Voices album announced yet (Universe Room came out in February), Robert Pollard keeps on chugging and has announced Blasphemy, the debut LP from one of his other projects, Rip Van Winkle. The group has Bob backed by three members of Ohio band Joseph Airport, and the album’s out July 11 via Rockathon Records.
The first single from the album is “By the Water,” which takes Pollard’s stadium rock aspirations into more of a noisy garage rock direction. You can listen to that below.
In other news, Guided by Voices are releasing a live album, Goodnight El Dorado, which features live board mixes from three 2024 GBV shows in Indianapolis, Woodstock and Dallas. That’s out July 11 with only 1500 copies pressed. Check out the tracklist and artwork below.
