Guadagnino’s “Sgt. Rock” Has Been Cancelled

Celebrated filmmaker Luca Guadagnino’s film adaptation of the DC Comics title “Sgt. Rock” is officially dead.

THR reports that the project was in pre-production ahead of a planned shoot in England this summer. Now though, the project wil no longer move forward.

Colin Farrell was slated to play the eponymous WW2 soldier and hero. Mike Faist, who worked with Guadagnino on “Challengers,” was lined up for a role – likely one of the men of Easy Company. Also supposedly lined up for one was “Alien: Romulus” star David Jonsson.

The role of a female French resistance fighter had also been set but it’s not clear who was going to play her.

Also not clear is why exactly the project has been shut down, though one source says the scheduling needs of shooting outdoors played an issue. Despite being a cost-effective $70 million, Guadagnino’s lack of experience in action films may have also played a part.

Justin Kuritzkes had penned the film in which a race is on to nab the mystical Spear of Destiny before the Nazi’s retrieve it.

Meanwhile another DC project, the “Clayface” film, will begin shooting in October.
