Next “Mission: Impossible” Nearly 3 Hours

Christopher McQuarrie’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is, unsurprisingly, set to be the longest film in the franchise to date.

The eighth overall film in the franchise, and the possibly final one for McQuarie and star Tom Cruise, has been confirmed to clock in at 171 minutes (2hrs 51mins).

That’s way up on the 156 minutes of prior film “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and 147 minutes of “Mission: Impossible Fallout” before that.

Compared to other films, it’s one minute longer than “Heat” and “Scarface,” the same as the re-release of the first “Avatar,” and one minute shorter than “Cloud Atlas”.

The title will wrap up the storyline involving The Entity that began in ‘Dead Reckoning’ and serve as a capper to the three decades of storytelling of this franchise with various throwbacks to past films.

The film’s cast includes Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Mariela Garriga, Henry Czerny, Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Angela Bassett, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell, and Frederick Schmidt.

‘Final Reckoning’ will have its world premiere at Cannes on Wednesday May 14th, ahead of the Australian release that is weirdly taking place on Saturday May 17th followed by the U.S. release on Friday May 23rd.
