In a recent interview GRRM confirms A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 is in development, plus updates vaguely on Winds of Winter progress. Promoting a new film he was involved with GRRM (George R. R. Martin) spoke with Collider. It is of course no surprise that the outlet had some Game of Thrones questions for its creator.

First, the next series from his Universe, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

“I’ve seen Dunk and Egg, the first season, and it’s great,” Martin praised, “and now they’re working on the second season. Those are two characters were really special to me, and they’re unusual, those characters. They’re not what most people would expect in a fantasy story.” For those hoping for more epic, massive battles or dragons clashing in the sky, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be a sharp change from what we’ve come to expect from this franchise. “It’s a little softer. It’s a little more humorous. I hope the audience will be open to that kind of change,” Martin said.

I’m not surprised at all if HBO is pushing straight ahead with Season 2. The books as there for guidance already for one. Additionally, as alluded to by the outlet, this show probably has a lower budget than say House of the Dragon.

He also talked a little about his frustrations with TV adaptations and the blessings it provides. You can catch the full comments in the source article linked above. One thing he did mention though, was the books, which are totally under his control.

“There’s always the books, and I’m aware of that people think that— But no, I have to get back. I have to finish the books. That’s the one thing I’m completely in control of. There’s no budget limitations. There’s no other executives on the studio side that I have to please, or other writers with different views. The books are what I’m going to make them. And, I think the one I’m writing is coming pretty well, but I wish it would come faster.”

There’s no big mystery as to which book GRRM is writing. The same book he’s been writing for over a decade, The Winds of Winter. Which by his own words is the penultimate book in the entire A Song of Ice and Fire Saga. If you’re a show fan, then that simply means the book story for Game of Thrones.

So, it’s coming well, but he wishes it could be faster. There’s probably a million fans out there either wishing the same things or rolling their eyes, convinced it’ll never happen.
