George Clooney has revealed he won’t be doing any more romantic films, citing his age as the reason.
The actor is well known for his romantic roles, and starred in 2022’s Ticket To Paradise alongside Julia Roberts. However, he has now implied that it would be his last.
In an interview with 60 Minutes on Sunday, the star insisted that he was too old to be taking on romantic parts. “Look, I’m 63 years old,” the actor said. “I’m not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men. That’s not my job. I’m not doing romantic films anymore.”
While Clooney was promoting Ticket to Paradise in 2022, he noted that he hadn’t made a romantic comedy since 1996.
Last year it was announced that the anticipated sequel to the Clooney and Brad Pitt action comedy Wolfs is cancelled. The original film was released on Apple TV+ in September 2024 after a brief theatrical run. Directed by Jon Watts (Marvel’s Spider-Man trilogy), it saw Clooney and Pitt playing two professional fixers who are forced to work together on a job, despite both preferring to work as lone wolves.
The film had been widely expected to be granted a sequel, with Clooney, Pitt and Watts all returning, but Variety have confirmed that the second film will now not be going ahead.
In a three-star review of Wolfs, NME wrote: “Despite its superficially dark material, Wolfs isn’t meant to be difficult or challenging, it’s just an enjoyable time hanging out with some chilled, reassuringly handsome gents as they get to the bottom of their not-a-murder mystery.”
“When they eventually do and all the strands are explained, it’s quite hard to follow how things all connect up but it doesn’t really matter. By that point viewers will have gladly accepted the state of things – sometimes a cosy night in watching an easy film is the best remedy for dealing with the world’s woes, as it is in this case.”
