YACademy

Institution: YACademy
Course: Architecture for Hospitality
Tutor: Patricia Urquiola

School statement:

"The course in Architecture for Hospitality is the educational project by Yacademy and Cesare Roversi, aimed at training young architecture professionals within the framework of quality hospitality facilities.

"The programme provides young people with the expertise and experience of some of the most distinguished architectural studios belonging to Yacademy's network and offers prestigious future job opportunities, with a guaranteed placement within the partner firms.

"For the course's first edition, Yacademy collaborated with HINES and chose Patricia Urquiola as the tutor of the design workshop, to address the development of a new model of hybrid hospitality characterised by a strong Italian spirit: the 'glostels'.

"In a property located near the famous Navigli – the heart of Milan, the students had the opportunity to measure themselves against a real case study: the conversion of an existing residential property towards an innovative receptive typology."

Where Art, Fashion and Design meet hospitality by Ana Carolina Moreira, Candela De Luca, Daniel Lima Dib Amorim and Fernando Arroyo

"This proposal imagines a contemporary hospitality space where art, fashion and design meet. Blending Italian identity with sustainable practices, the project features compact yet elegant rooms, a gastro-market, co-working areas and a space for cultural installations.

"The concept promotes permeability between public and private spaces, welcoming both tourists and locals. Formal materials and colours are reinterpreted and applied to new, more informal spaces, resulting in a 'new contrast' that invites comfort and sharing in a relaxed and contemporary atmosphere.

"New technologies and a deep awareness of sustainability lead the team to explore new materials derived from waste but able to capture the charm of Italian style."

Navigli Glostels by Hines by Fatima Binte Azam, Lorenzo David Filippi, Sevde Hırçın, Yousef Khoja and Bruce Awuraama

"This proposal aims to create an urban retreat able to blend hospitality with wellness, culture and creativity. The concept promotes the idea of a 'healthy evasion' thanks to spaces like a spa, meditation rooms, yoga studios, co-working areas and an art gallery.

"The design revitalises the 1960s building across multiple levels, featuring rooftop dining, exhibition spaces in the basement and guest rooms with flexible layouts.

"A central courtyard reflects Milanese 'case di ringhiera' traditions. Sustainable materials, calming palettes and curated interiors support the vision of a rejuvenating, inclusive environment for both locals and travellers seeking balance and inspiration."

Khome: Come Home by Anna Paola Abbate, Carmen Yeap, Patricia Yanni, Chia Sheng Lee and Verginia Mahu

"Khome: Come Home is a proposal for a 'glostel' capable of blending domestic intimacy with urban vibrancy. The concept revolves around the idea of 'coming home' and aims to connect tourists with the local community.

"Spanning seven floors, the project includes dynamic common areas, wellness services and flexible room layouts.

"Materials and colours echo Milanese tradition, while the rooftop celebrates social life and culture. The design merges memory, sustainability and experiential hospitality into a welcoming and iconic destination."

24m: Un Hotel a Milano by Silvia Giandoriggio, Manoela Vilaça, Manuel Suárez, Berfin Dogan and Luigi Moraca

"24m is a design-driven glostel that merges Italian architectural heritage with contemporary hospitality. The proposal offers a layered experience across multiple floors, featuring an art gallery, a co-working space, a wellness club and a rooftop restaurant.

"The project intends to elaborately celebrate the industrial culture of Milan and its perspective towards the design system and the visual arts.

"The interiors comprise curated furniture and refined materials like travertine, walnut and Calacatta marble. Guest rooms vary from compact to spacious suites with balconies.

"The project emphasises identity, glamour and flexibility, aiming to attract a creative, design-savvy clientele and foster community through cultural engagement, aesthetic expression and a holistic idea of wellness."
