Florida Man deliver grungy post-hardcore anthem “Dot Gov” & announce first LP in 6 years
The South Carolina band’s Taylor Young-mixed LP arrives in April.

Charleston post-hardcore band Florida Man returned in January with the fiery new single “El Rey” and today they’ve announced their first album in six years, Plastique, which follows 2019’s Tropical Depression. Due out April 4 via The Ghost Is Clear Records (pre-order), Plastique was self-recorded at a cabin in the middle of the woods in St. Matthews, SC and then mixed by Taylor Young at The Pit. About the album title, the press release reads:
Plas·tique
/plasˈtēk/
1. plastic explosive.
2. statuesque poses or slow graceful movements in dancing.
the art or technique of performing plastique.
3. french for plastic
4. the new album from Florida Man“We felt like the various definitions of the word plastique represented the sound in many different ways – it’s aggressive and explosive, but slicker, shinier, and more graceful than our old music.” – Andrew Barnes (guitar)
Along with the announcement comes new single “Dot Gov,” and as good as “El Rey” is, this one’s even better. It’s a big, grungy post-hardcore anthem that connects the dots between late ’80s SST and the current hardcore/alt-rock crossover, and it instantly comes off as one of the best Florida Man songs to date. It meets the moment both musically and lyrically; a press release notes that the song is fueled by “images of AI destruction and the ashes of a futuristic authoritarian regime.”
“Dot Gov” comes with a grainy performance video that the band made with Matt Varner. Check that out below.
