Elle Fanning to Team Up with the Predator in ‘Predator: Badlands’

The Predator franchise will return to the big screen in November 2025 with director Dan Trachtenberg’s (Prey, 10 Cloverfield Lane) Predator: Badlands, with Elle Fanning (The Neon Demon) starring. The actor took to the CinemaCon this week to debut a trailer, per THR, revealing an intriguing new detail about Fanning’s role in the film.
Elle Fanning will play Thia, a character that doesn’t fight against the film’s Predator but rather teams up with the alien hunter.
“Something unprecedented happens in this movie, and my character is not the one being chased,” Fanning told CinemaCon’s crowd. “My character actually teams up with the Predator, and you get to see him in a whole new light.”
That aligns with what Trachtenberg previously said of the upcoming release,“The creature is front and centre, leading the charge,” the director stated. “He’s still badass, but there’s something there that touches you emotionally, too. Creating a character you connect with, but are also super-intimidated by, has been challenging. But exciting.”
Like with Prey, Trachtenberg’s goal with Predator: Badlands was to “push the franchise’s boundaries,” allowing fans the opportunity to root for the Predator this time around.
The trailer, which introduces our hero Predator and Thia, hasn’t made its way online just yet, but the film’s official logo has. Check it out below.
What’s more is that Predator: Badlands won’t be the only Predator film releasing this year. 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell teased that there’s another mysterious feature set to release before Badlands. Details on this second film remain under wraps at this time.
The Predator franchise of course kicked off with the original action-horror classic in 1987. That was followed by sequels Predator 2, Predators, The Predator, and Prey, as well as the two Alien vs. Predator movies. The long-running franchise also includes comic books and video games.
Predator: Badlands releases in theaters on November 7, 2025.
