A lot of eyes are on the second-weekend results of Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Brave New World” following the mixed reviews and B- CinemaScore in exit polls – would the drop-off be as steep as other Marvel disappointments?

Turns out no. The film is on track for a $28.1 million second weekend, a fall of 68%. That’s not good but is on par with “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Thor: Love and Thunder” which all fell around 67% in their sophomore runs.

It’s certainly an improvement on the 70% plunge of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and the 78% perilous fall of “The Marvels” in its second weekend.

Meanwhile, NEON opened its Oz Perkins-directed horror tale “The Monkey” to very good critical reviews and a C+ CinemaScore (horror always fares low on CinemaScore).

That movie is shaping up to have a $13.5-14 million domestic opening weekend – that would make it the second biggest opening for NEON to date behind only Perkins’ “Longlegs,” which debuted at $22.4 million last year.

Third will be “Paddington in Peru” which is headed for a $6.5 million second weekend and a drop of just 48%. The release of “Dog Man” on PVOD this week hasn’t impacted its box office as the film’s fourth week is headed for $5.75 million – a drop of just 41%.

“Heart Eyes” will close out the top five with $3 million. Lionsgate debuted “Unbreakable Boy” but the movie looks to open in just eighth place with a $2.1 million haul.
