Adrien Brody Says Christopher Nolan's Joker Was the Role That Got Away and He'd Love to Join Marvel on One Condition
Two-time Academy Award-winning actor Adrien Brody (The Pianist, The Brutalist) is fresh off his second win, and is sorting through the offers rolling in to choose his next several projects. Brody has mostly starred in dramas in his career, and he would have continued his streak even in the superhero genre if things had gone his way. He was up for the “dream role” of Joker in Christopher Nolan’s 2008 megahit Batman film, The Dark Knight, which famously went to Heath Ledger. In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast (via /Film), Brody was asked if the genre was still of interest to him. He responded:"If I was presented with an opportunity to play an interesting character with a filmmaker that elevated me and gave me space to do something vastly different in that world, it sounds amazing. “You have this wonderful machine, if we're talking about a Marvel movie — you have Disney and Marvel and all these giants that know all the technique and tools and stand behind these movies, and they've done something I think is enormous."Brody then mentioned the one condition under which he’d actually sign on to a project:"People love them. Who wouldn't want to be part of something that is beloved? But it would take a tone I related to. It wouldn't be just to...you know."He doesn’t feel the need to check this off a bucket list or anything like that. He wanted to play Joker specifically, so he would need to find another character that interested him at least as much. If Brody did join the MCU or even the DCU, who could you see him as?
