Why Neil Young Is Standing Up To Ticketmaster

Neil Young has been a touring musician for over five decades, and he’s decided that he is going to change things up with his upcoming tour.

The 79-year-old singer-songwriter recently gave his fans an unexpected update about the ticket options that will be available for his shows. Young posted a message on his website on Friday, March 13, where he revealed that Ticketmaster’s “platinum tickets” will not be available during his 2025 tour. The “Heart of Gold” singer referenced a 2024 interview in which The Cure’s Robert Smith criticized musicians who sold tickets with dynamic pricing. The singer noted that it was Smith, 65, and his words during the interview that “really helped [him] realize that [he has] a choice to make and can make a difference for [his] music-loving friends.”

Young also explained that “Ticketmaster’s high-priced platinum tickets were introduced to the areas where scalpers were buying the most tickets for resale,” in his message before he admitted, “The money went to me. That didn’t feel right.” He then went on to suggest that his fans “buy aggressively when the tickets come out,” before he warned them that tickets will likely “cost a lot more in a secondary market.”

The “Rockin’ in the Free World” singer and his band, Chrome Hearts, announced that they will embark on the 25-date Love Earth world tour in August. The tour is set to visit eight countries across North America and Europe and will kick off on June 18 in Sweden, ending on September 15 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California.

Tickets to Young’s Love Earth tour are now on sale.
