Gwyneth Paltrow has praised her new co-star Timothée Chalamet, describing him as “a thinking man’s sex symbol”.
Speaking in an interview with Vanity Fair, Paltrow discussed working on the new A24 project Marty Supreme, Josh Safdie’s follow up to the cult 2019 hit Uncut Gems. Having not been seen on the big screen since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, she admits she fell out of the loop with film, having not seen Uncut Gems or any Chalamet movie.
However, having worked with him, she professed to being a fan. “He’s such a thinking man’s sex symbol,” she says of the actor. “He’s just a very polite, properly raised, I was going to say kid… He’s a man who takes his work really seriously and is a fun partner”.
Little is known about Marty Supreme, other than it was rumoured to be inspired by professional table tennis player Marty Reisman, although the studio have denied the film is based on him. Oscar winner Paltrow opened up during the interview about what to expect from the film.
She explained that her character is “this woman who is married to someone who is in the Ping-Pong mafia, as it were” before becoming involved with Chalamet’s title character, Marty Mauser. “They meet and she’s had a pretty tough life, and I think he breathes life back into her, but it’s kind of transactional for them both”.
Marty Supreme is scheduled for release in US cinemas on December 25, coming to the UK a day later. Recently, Gwyneth Paltrow discussed how the recent LA Wildfires impacted her mentally. “So many of our close friends have lost everything” she said. “I think I drank every night”.
Meanwhile, fellow Oscar winner Cate Blanchett praised the “fantastic” performance Timothée Chalamet gave as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, having played the musician herself in 2007’s I’m Not There.
