Watch Thurston Moore on game show ‘Track Star’

Track Star, the YouTube/TikTok game show where people (including some notable famous faces) try and guess a series of songs played to them, rivals Hot Ones for its contestant list, which has included everyone from Charli XCX, Olivia Rodrigo and Ed Sheeran to Kamala Harris, Julia Louis Dreyfus and Jimmy Fallon. This week, though, they’ve got an NYC underground on the show: Sonic Youth‘s Thurston Moore.

Shot on the street as always (though clearly at some point when it was much warmer), Thurston is given a pair of headphones and must try to identify eight songs, which are themed to him, including songs by Ramones, The Velvet Underground, Roxy Music, Mayhem and more. Thurston is a musicologist and owned a record store in London for a couple years, but he didn’t totally ace the exam — he couldn’t place Wire‘s “Three Girl Rhumba,” for instance. But the show is more about the stories that come out of this, like his love for Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark, which he says was “one of the first records I ever stole.”
