Bahrain Pavilion

This week on Dezeen, we exclusively showcased a number of Expo 2025 Osaka Pavilions, including the Bahrain Pavilion by architect Lina Ghotmeh.

In the lead-up to the event, we looked at 10 standout pavilions from Expo 2025 Osaka, including the France Pavilion, designed by studios Coldefy and Carlo Ratti Associati and fronted with a giant copper staircase.

Woo Architects created the perforated UK Pavilion

A pixelated facade made from folded, perforated metal clads the UK Pavilion created by Woo Architects, while Foster + Partners and design agency Journey completed the Saudi Arabia Pavilion, informed by the country's traditional villages.

Also at the expo, Japanese fashion brand Anrealage created jackets with built-in electric fans to keep staff cool at the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation pavilion.

Philippe Starck spoke to Dezeen about his fear of Milan design week being taken over by luxury brands

At the recent Milan design week, designer Philippe Starck spoke about his fear that the annual city-wide event is being taken over by "toxic" luxury trends in an interview with Dezeen features editor Nat Barker.

"I was shocked this year at the shift from something [that] at the beginning was really democratic," said Starck.

Following the event, we also rounded up furniture and lighting made by architects and studios that were on display in the city, including projects by Kengo Kuma, Herzog & de Meuron and BIG.

270 Park Ave Skyscraper
Foster + Partners' supertall skyscraper is close to completion

In skyscraper news, much of the exterior cladding and superstructural work has been completed on the 270 Park Avenue supertall skyscraper in New York, designed by Foster + Partners to be "all-electric".

In nearby New Jersey, US studios Handel Architects and HWKN have completed the Journal Squared development, which includes three skyscrapers and stretches across 213,676 square metres (2.3 million square feet).

Uchronia has created inflatable flower installations for Coachella

This week in design news, we covered a trio of installations created for the annual Coachella music festival in California, which concludes this Sunday.

The lineup features large-scale 1960s-style inflatable flower bouquets by Parisian studio Uchronia, centred by a 32-foot-tall structure with green-painted metal stems.

3D-printed railway station in Arida by Serendix
The "world's first" 3D-printed railway station has been constructed in Japan

Dezeen readers were also intrigued by what has been billed as the world's first 3D-printed railway station in Arida, Japan, which was constructed in under six hours between the last and first train services.

Created by Japanese company Serendix, the station was made from four prefabricated parts – a roof, a back wall, and two corner elements forming the side walls and floor – made in seven days at a factory.
