From the people who brought you “The Walking Dead,” Final Destination and Super Troopers (how’s that for a wildly unexpected pairing?!) comes The Slashin’ of the Christ, a mysterious upcoming horror project that has popped up on the Bloody Disgusting radar this week.
The project has come to our attention after a series of cryptic teases from the social media accounts for the band Ice Nine Kills, and we’ve been able to deduce that INK frontman Spencer Charnas wrote the script for The Slashin’ of the Christ alongside Paul Soter (Super Troopers).
Paul Soter, a member of the popular Broken Lizard comedy group, wrote films including Super Troopers, Beerfest, and the slasher comedy Club Dread, and he’ll be returning to the horror arena with the upcoming film The Slashin’ of the Christ. Also on board this mysterious film? Filmmaker, makeup FX master and “The Walking Dead” executive producer Greg Nicotero!
Greg Nicotero will be producing The Slashin’ of the Christ, which we assume will be a violent horror-comedy, alongside Brian Witten (Final Destination) and Chris Nilsson (The Dirt). Witten is Nicotero’s producing partner via their company Monster Agency Productions, and the duo produced all four seasons of Shudder’s hit horror anthology “Creepshow.”
The endlessly impressive resume of horror hits that Nicotero has worked on includes Day of the Dead, Evil Dead II, Misery, Army of Darkness, Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, From Dusk Till Dawn, Scream, The Faculty, Thirteen Ghosts, Hostel, The Hills Have Eyes, Grindhouse, and the list goes on. Needless to say, Nicotero boarding The Slashin’ of the Christ is a huge vote of confidence in the project, suggesting horror fans are in store for a wild treat with this one.
Keep your eyes peeled on SlashinoftheChrist.com for updates.
Spencer and the Ice Nine Kills gang hit the road later this month for a series of shows that will bring their one-of-a-kind horror musical act to locations including Canada, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, Illinois, Texas, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The tour includes stadium shows alongside Metallica and Limp Bizkit.
