‘The Sinking City 2’ Kickstarter Now Live, New Gameplay Teaser and Dev Update [Watch]

Frogwares has dropped a big update for The Sinking City 2, which was announced last March at the Xbox Partner Preview. Not only is the Kickstarter now live, but the developer has released a new gameplay teaser video, alongside a five-minute developer diary, showcasing the current state of the game’s development, additional in-game footage and more.

With Ukraine is still in a state of war, Frogwares has turned to Kickstarter once again to create a safety net for the studio, to help secure some additional features for the game, and to get more direct access to its most diehard fans.

“After 3 years of this horrid war hanging over our daily lives, we’ve learned to adapt, though it has never been easy,” says Wael Amr, CEO of Frogwares. “In 2023 when we released Sherlock Holmes The Awakened with the help of Kickstarter and our loving fans, we built ourselves a safety net that saved us more than once. From power outages and the need for team members to relocate on short notice, to having to pause development for days, this safety net was crucial. Given that The Sinking City 2 is a far more complex and demanding game, we’ve decided to take the same route as before.”

The campaign has a target of 100,000 EUR / 105,000 USD and offers a selection of rewards to fans, including the two first ever physical Limited & Collector’s Editions of The Sinking City 2 that will be made available only to Kickstarter backers.

As for the gameplay reveal, it clocks in at just under a minute, but does give you a good look at the game’s environments, as well as some of the horrors you’ll face in Arkham. Meanwhile, the developer deep dive does just that, explaining the “horror-first” focus of The Sinking City 2, with gameplay primarily built around combat, exploration, and the game’s Lovecraftian setting.

Set in an otherworldly Lovecraftian version of the 1920s United States, The Sinking City 2 is a standalone game from the 2019 original, taking place in Arkham, which is now plagued by a supernatural flood that has brought decay and Eldritch monsters to its streets. It’s up to you to clean things up, fighting off nightmarish abominations while exploring a rotting city as the rising waters change the landscape, and discover just how you got into this mess.

The Sinking City 2 is currently in development for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
