Rapper SZA has played Catwoman in an advert for US company State Farm, co-starring Jason Bateman.

In the two-minute commercial, set in the world of DC comics, a narrator talks about how using any other company would be like “having Bate Man instead of Batman”.

It then shows a montage of the Arrested Development character trying to solve crimes as Bate Man, only to be completely unprepared until The Dark Knight comes along.

Confronting many of Batman’s famous enemies, SZA appears as Catwoman as Bateman tries to stop her during a jewellery heist.

She says “nice fanny pack” to her co-star, kicking him to the ground and foiling his rescue attempt. The genuine Batman is seen turning up in other scenes to save the day. Youtuber Kai Cenat, TikTok star Jordan The Stallion, and company spokesperson Jake From State Farm also appear.

The short was meant to air during the Super Bowl, however January’s Los Angeles wildfires led it to be moved to March given that a comedy commercial by an insurer may have been seen as being in poor taste after an event that saw thousands lose their homes.

It’s the latest acting appearance for SZA after making her film debut in comedy One Of Them Days alongside Keke Palmer, with the pair playing two best friends who have one day to find their rent money or risk being evicted. The film was a big hit on its January release in the US, and came to UK cinemas March 7.

This summer, the artist will also embark on a series of stadium concerts with Kendrick Lamar, with the ‘Grand National’ tour, appearing at Glasgow’s Hampden Park, Birmingham’s Villa Park, Cardiff’s Principality Stadium and London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
