Stop Motion Horror Game ‘The Midnight Walk’ Launches May 8 for PC, PlayStation 5 [Trailer]

Old-school PC gamers might remember 1995’s The Dark Eye, which utilized stop motion animation with 3D graphics. Developer MoonHood must have, since they’ve been working on their own horror game in The Midnight Walk. One of our most anticipated titles this year, MoonHood has announced that the game will launch on May 8 for PC via Steam and PlayStation 5, with VR support for both platforms.

From the minds behind Lost in Random and Fe, in The Midnight Walk, you assume the role of The Burnt One, who befriends a lost lantern creature named Potboy. Using his flame, you will be able to light your way through a conflicting world of wonder and horror.

Survive and outsmart the many monsters eager to devour Potboy’s flame as you experience five tales of fire and darkness. You’ll need to use his flame to distract while you hide from and evade the many threats of The Dark Itself.

As mentioned, everything you see in The Midnight Walk, from the drooling snarl of monsters to the bristling tree tops that line the journey, has been sculpted in clay and then 3D scanned to a “meticulous level” of detail. The end result is a wholly-unique look of a fantasy world with an artistic imprint, all realized in stop motion.
