Six architecture and design events in May from Dezeen Events Guide

NYCxDesign, Venice Architecture Biennale and Clerkenwell Design Week are among the architecture and design events featured in Dezeen Events Guide this May.

Other events taking place during the month include London Craft Week, Melbourne Design Week and Southern Sweden Design Days.

Venice Architecture Biennale
10 May to 23 November, Italy

Venice Architecture Biennale will return in 2025, hosting its 19th edition and following the theme of Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.

The event's curator, architect Carlo Ratti, has outlined the role of science in this year's edition, which examines how architecture can mitigate climate issues through all forms of "intelligence", rather than focusing solely on technological innovations.

More than 750 people and organisations are participating in this year's festival, which will display over 280 projects.

London Craft Week
12 to 18 May, UK

London Craft Week will host exhibitions, fairs, open studios, tours, performances, product launches, talks, workshops and parties over seven days.

The annual festival will explore almost 100 traditional and contemporary disciplines, including 3D printing, biofabrication, ceramics, embroidery, etching, furniture making, gilding, leather working, rug making and weaving.

NYCxDesign
15 to 21 May, USA

NYCxDesign returns in May with a week-long programme of exhibitions, talks, open showrooms, tours and parties across Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.

One of the largest events to take place this year is design fair ICFF, which will take place from 18 to 20 May at its usual location, the Javits Centre.

Dezeen is a media partner for ICFF 2025 and has created a digital guide and interactive map for the festival.

Melbourne Design Week
23 May to 2 June, Australia

This year's edition of Melbourne Design Week has the theme Design the World You Want, encouraging participants to utilise skills to improve future environments and have a positive impact on the economy, ecology and society.

The are seven key venues for the 2025 event, including the Melbourne School of Design, NGV International and the Victorian Pride Centre.

The venues are set to host exhibitions, talks, film screenings and workshops.

Clerkenwell Design Week
20 to 22 May, UK

Clerkenwell Design Week is a yearly festival located in and around London's Clerkenwell neighbourhood that invites brands to open their showrooms, create installations and join the talks programme.

Conversations at Clerkenwell will take place over three days in the Charterhouse, with designers such as Sabine Marcelis, Tom Dixon and Benjamin Hubert leading discussions.

Southern Sweden Design Days
22 to 25 May, Sweden

Echo is the theme of the 2025 edition of Southern Sweden Design Days, focusing on the past, present and future of the design industry.

This year marks the fifth iteration of the festival, which will offer over 160 events from 450 participants, including exhibitions, seminars and workshops.

The five-day festival will span 80 venues in Malmö, with a central location at the former railway workshop Lokstallarna.
