Developers Simon Jakobsson and Aurora Punks have announced an agreement with publisher Headup to publish their upcoming post-apocalyptic action title, Vessels of Decay. The pixel-based hack ‘n slasher will be coming to Steam, the Epic Games Store, GOG, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch this summer. There’s currently a free open playtest available now on Steam.
Vessels of Decay follows the story of Freja and Mud. Civilization has ended, and something else has awoken in its place. From the world’s decay, ancient creatures stir, rise, and roam the land. In this retro-inspired tale, you’ll confront creatures of Scandinavian myth and folklore horrors while exploring the ruins of the civilization they inhabit.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Simon Jakobsson and Aurora Punks to bring Vessels of Decay to players worldwide,” said Dieter Schoeller, CEO at Headup. “This game’s unique blend of Scandinavian folklore, fast-paced action, and eye-catching retro-inspired visuals makes it a truly special experience, and we can’t wait for players to explore its haunting world.”
Featuring a dynamic battle system with unique finishers a la Blasphemous, Vessels of Decay also sports multi-stage boss encounters, requiring you to use your wits and reflexes to pursue and slay them. Set against the uniquely Scandinavian take on the classic action-adventure game, players will clash with the battered ruins of a once-modern society clash against the renewed growth of nature and the supernatural.
