After two decades and ten films, the “Saw” franchise may have reached its end.
2023’s “Saw X” became the best-reviewed film of the series and grossed $111 million worldwide, Lionsgate so happy with the result they quickly greenlit “Saw XI” for a September 2024 release.
Last Spring, that release was then pushed back to September 2025. Today, Bloody Disgusting reports that according to their sources, the project id “totally dead. It’s 100% over. Almost a year now.”
Their source says everything fell apart back in January last year when “the producers started fighting”. One tried to “plow forward” as the other “put up roadblocks”. Meanwhile studio Lionsgate “didn’t have anyone to smooth over the disagreement.”
With the film effectively canceled, the franchise is effectively dead and an insider says the franchise will likely either be sold on or will reboot and start over. They add “greed and ego won” at the end of the day.
The ten films have pulled in $1.1 billion off a combined $120 million budget to date.
