PS Store shovelware slop

Just when you think that the PS Store shovelware problem can’t get any worse, it does. A number of players have spotted sponsored advertisements on PlayStation’s own social media accounts promoting PS Store slop, like the infamous jumping object games.

PS Store shovelware advertisements took players by surprise

Over on Reddit, several players shared screenshots of sponsored posts from various PlayStation social media accounts promoting shovelware, which took everyone by surprise. We’re not sure how this issue occurred to begin with, and we’re not going to attempt to guess.

We’re having a hard time believing that Meta automatically picked random games from the PS Store, but we’ll give Sony the benefit of the doubt and hope that someone notices the blooper.

We’ve written at length about PS Store shovelware over the years, and have often been met with responses from readers pointing fingers at Nintendo’s online store, for some reason (one issue doesn’t negate the other). However, this is the first instance we’ve seen of a platform manufacturer’s social media handles promoting asset flip nonsense.

Recently, a false rumor made rounds, claiming that Sony had begun pulling slop from its online storefront following an IGN investigation. Like we said then, there’s no way an article prompted Sony to snap into action.

For now, assume that this problem is only going to get worse.
