GKIDS has announced that Hayao Miyazaki’s “Princess Mononoke” is coming back to cinemas with a newly restored 4K cut heading exclusively to IMAX screens.
Celebrating the distributor’s 40th anniversary, the 1997 Studio Ghibli film will be screened in both original Japanese language with subtitles and English language dubbed versions.
Considered one of Miyazaki’s greatest works, the epic masterpiece follows the young warrior Ashitaka during the Muromachi period of Japanese history.
Inflicted with a deadly curse, he heads west in search of a cure. There, he stumbles into a bitter conflict between Lady Eboshi, the proud people of Iron Town, and the enigmatic Princess Mononoke.
She is a young girl raised by wolves, who will stop at nothing to prevent the humans from destroying her home and the forest spirits and animal gods who live there.
The English voice cast included Gillian Anderson as Moro, Billy Crudup as Ashitaka, Claire Danes as San, Minnie Driver as Lady Eboshi, Jada Pinkett Smith as Toki, Billy Bob Thornton as Jigo, Keith David as Okkoto, and more. It was produced by Studio Ghibli chairman Toshio Suzuki.
Tickets are now available to purchase on Fandango.
