“Predator” & “Alien” Crossover Talk Heats Up

A single shot in the recent trailer for the new live-action “Predator: Badlands” film has started a wave of speculation that the “Predator” and “Alien” universes are about to combine again.

In the trailer, Elle Fanning’s character of Thia is revealed to be a synthetic and in one shot her eyes roll back in her head to reveal a Weyland-Yutani corporate logo on them. Weyland-Yutani of course is the ‘company’ that plays a major part of the “Alien” franchise.

That has prompted speculation that Disney is working on a potential crossover angle again between the franchises. Adding fuel to the fire was a report from scooper Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic yesterday which claims that the script for Fede Alvarez’s follow-up to “Alien: Romulus” features a Predator.

“Predator Badlands” director Dan Trachtenberg was asked by Bloody Disgusting about the film’s Alien connections, but has played coy saying only: “There’s a unique hook to her character that is exciting in the pairing of [her and the Predator]” which would seem to suggest that eyeball easter egg is about as far as it goes.

No further details are available at this time. The franchises have teamed up before in multiple media formats. On film, a xenomorph skull was seen in “Predator 2” and then over a decade later came two “Alien vs. Predator” films.

The talk comes on the eve of the release of the first full trailer for FX’s “Alien: Earth” series, which is tipped to arrive tomorrow – just in time for Alien Day (4/26). The trailer follows a series of cryptic teasers, brief footage in FX/Disney compilation reels, and a short one-minute clip from the series a while back.
