Posthumous Marianne Faithfull EP to feature four new songs – listen to title track ‘Burning Moonlight’
"Right up until the end she was looking forward to this release, which now completes and celebrates her remarkable artistic career" The post Posthumous Marianne Faithfull EP to feature four new songs – listen to title track ‘Burning Moonlight’ appeared first on NME.

Four songs recorded by the late Marianne Faithfull are set to be released at the request of her family.
A stalwart of the Swinging London arts and music scene in the 1960s, Faithfull became one of the leading female artists during the British Invasion era. She died in January, aged 78.
Tributes poured out for the ‘Broken English’ singer, with Blur‘s Graham Coxon, The Charlatans‘ Tim Burgess, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Ed Harcourt, Warren Ellis, Ronnie Wood, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sir Paul McCartney, Morrissey, Metallica and more all penning personal tributes.
‘Burning Moonlight’, a four-track EP made up of songs recorded in the year before her death, was originally slated for a February announcement as part of the Record Store Day 2025 list, but the news was postponed following her death.
Now, with the blessing of the late singer’s family, DECCA Records have shared news of ‘Burning Moonlight’ as a celebration of Faithfull’s life and sound. The title track is out today (March 14), and will be followed by a limited edition vinyl EP for RSD on April 12, while a digital EP version will be out on June 6. You can pre-order/pre-save the EP here.
“As we grieve the loss of Marianne, we are pleased to announce the release of these songs which she worked on during the year before her death,” her son, Nicholas Dunbar, said of the EP in a statement.
“Marianne lived to create and perform music – it was her driving force and she never stopped. Right up until the end she was looking forward to this release which now completes and celebrates her remarkable artistic career.”
The four new recordings call back to her first two albums, released simultaneously 60 years this April. The EP’s executive producer Andrew Batt said it was “so unusual” to start a career that way, that they “decided to bring the music full circle”, with one side of the EP would be inspired by her debut pop, and the other a nod to her folk roots.
Side One opens with ‘Burning Moonlight’, which is available download here. The track was inspired by the opening line of her debut, the Mick Jagger–Keith Richards composition ‘As Tears Go By’, and ‘Love Is’ acts a love letter to her ’60s pop sound.
There’s a return to folk tradition on Side Two, which features ‘Three Kinsmen Bold’, a traditional song Faithfull learned from her father Glynn, a guiding influence on her early folk recordings. Also included is a new interpretation of ‘She Moved Thru’ The Fair’ which was a live mainstay for the singer, who first recorded it in 1966.
“It’s a good time to look back,” she said after completing the project. “It helps me to remember all the things I’ve done. I can’t say I’m a particularly nostalgic person, but I am enjoying this period of reflection.”
In NME’s tribute to the late singer, Nick Levine wrote: “Faithfull, who is survived by her son and grandchildren, had her share of tough times and dark nights of the soul. But somehow, her restless creative spirit always prevailed.
“She was also a master at burnishing her own mythology. “I’ll visit all the places I used to know so well, from Maida Vale to Chelsea,” she sang on her 2014 song ‘Give My Love To London’. “Paradise to hell, boys, paradise to hell.” In the end, she died in London surrounded by her family, rather closer to paradise than she might once have expected.”
