Back in 2019, Channel 4 and HBO brought the world a two-part documentary called Leaving Neverland, which dug into the stories of Wade Robson and James Safechuck, men who allege they were sexually abused as children by pop super-star Michael Jackson. Now a sequel titled Leaving Neverland 2: Surviving Michael Jackson is scheduled to premiere on Channel 4 at 9PM on March 18, and a short teaser trailer has made its way online. You can check it out in the embed above. In the United States and English-speaking Canada, the film will premiere at 8PM ET on March 18 on Real Stories, Little Dot Studios’ premium documentary channel on YouTube. Leaving Neverland 2 will not be featured on HBO because the Jackson estate successfully sued the network for breaching a non-disparagement clause in a 1992 contract for an HBO concert special on Jackson’s Dangerous tour when they distributed the first Leaving Neverland.

Deadline informs us that Leaving Neverland 2 has been produced and directed by Dan Reed through his production company Amos Pictures. Marguerite Gaudin also produced, while Peter Haddon and Ben Hills served as editors. Iris Maor was head of production. Adam Vandermark is the Channel 4 commissioner. Sphere Abacus is handling international sales. The first Leaving Neverland won an Emmy for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special, and was also awarded a BAFTA TV award for Factual Series.

Here’s some information on the sequel: The hour-long film will detail the personal toll of Robson and Safechuck going public with their accusations and the backlash from Jackson’s global army of fans. With exclusive access to hearings, the film will also show the extent to which MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures fought to prevent Robson and Safechuck from pursuing justice.
