Kendrick Lamar guests on 3 songs on Playboi Carti’s new album ‘I Am Music’ (listen)

Kendrick Lamar‘s latest era began with a guest verse on a Future & Metro Boomin album. Since then, he got involved in a world-famous beef with Drake that led to his world-conquering diss track “Not Like Us,” and then he released his new album GNX and headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show with help from frequent collaborator SZA as the two prepare for a co-headlining tour together. Now, he’s contributed guest vocals to an album by another Atlanta trap star, Playboi Carti. Carti’s new album I Am Music (or simply just Music, as it’s listed on streaming services) has 30 songs in 76 minutes and Kendrick is on three of them, “Mojo Jojo”, “Backd00r”, and “Good Credit.” On “Mojo Jojo” and “Backd00r”, he’s not in that fired-up “Not Like Us”/GNX mode. Instead, plays more of a supporting role to Carti and embraces his melodic side. But on his third of three, “Good Credit,” he shows the “Not Like Us”/GNX fire is still burning. All three tracks are worth hearing, and it’s nice to get multiple sides of Kenny on someone else’s project. Listen below.

Playboi Carti will be supporting The Weeknd on tour this year, including NYC-area stadium shows at MetLife Stadium on June 5 & 6.
