John Dwyer (OSEES) & David Barbarossa (Bow Wow Wow) form Chime Oblivion, announce debut LP: hear “Neighborhood Dog”

Here’s a collaboration we didn’t see coming: OSEES frontman John Dwyer and original Adam & The Ants / Bow Wow Wow drummer David Barbarossa have formed a new project called Chime Oblivion. The two met after an OSEES show and hit it off, and here we are. “I reached out to David and suggested that we try and write some songs together,” says Dwyer. “I flew David out, we met at my studio and spent five days writing basin drums ideas.”

Dwyer then invited in Weasel Walter (“to add all that legitimate old-school weird proto-punk no wave guitar scratch to it, which of course he did masterfully”), OSEES synth guru Tom Dolas, Bent Arcana’s Brad Caulkins, and singer H.L. Nelly (“I knew her from a record I’d put out back in the day for a band called Naked Lights from Oakland. I knew that she could pull off the vocal style I had in mind”) to complete the Chime Oblivion sound.

Chime Oblivion’s self-titled debut will be out April 18 via Dwyer’s new label Deathgod, and he describes it as “for fans of Adam & the Ants, Bow Wow Wow, Crass, The Slits and any other wierdo punk we fell in love with as youths.” You can hear all that in the album’s very fun first single “Neighborhood Dog,” which premieres in this post. Listen to it below.

No word on any Chime Oblivion live shows, but John Dwyer will be very busy this year on tour with OSEES.
