Glenn Danzig says bands returning after their “final” shows is “kind of a scam”

Glenn Danzig is taking Danzig on the road for some West Coast shows this month, and ahead of that he spoke with Radioactive MikeZ for his “Wired in the Empire” show. Among the topics they touched on was bands returning to play more shows after what’s billed as a “final” date. Danzig is not a fan; he told MikeZ, “Yeah, I don’t know. I mean, I remember when Danzig went out with Ozzy, that was supposed to be his final tour. And then he’s done a bunch of final tours since then. So I don’t know.”

“If it’s gonna be final, it should be final,” he added. “If you say it’s gonna be final… You’ll see all these bands [announcing what they say will be] the last tour, and then they’re back again two years later. And it’s kind of a scam, I think. So, when it’s final, and if I say it’s final, it’ll be final.”

This is a subject Danzig might know something about. He previously said he was “pretty sure there’s not gonna be many more” Misfits reunion shows after their 2019 Madison Square Garden show in NYC, but they’re still going in 2025, and playing Coachella next month.

Danzig also talked about his upcoming dates, which are with Down, Abbath, and Cro-Mags, with MikeZ. “I don’t really tour anymore,” he said. “I’ll do a string of shows, which I don’t consider a tour. If it’s, like, you know, six to 10 shows, I don’t really consider that a tour. When I used to go out on tour, we would go out for three or four months at a time, come home for a couple of weeks or a month and then go back out again for another couple of months. That’s touring, where you’re hitting every city in the United States or in Germany or Europe or Scandinavia, wherever you’re going. That’s a tour. I mean, this is just a small string of shows here on the West Coast.”

Meanwhile, Ozzy and Black Sabbath’s next “final” shows are together, this July in Birmingham. Also on that show: Slayer, who recently returned after their “final” show in 2019 (and whose original drummer Dave Lombardo is now in the Misfits).
