George R.R. Martin Offers Another Update on THE WINDS OF WINTER: "I Wish It Would Come Faster"
If you’ve been waiting for The Winds of Winter, well… you’re going to have to keep waiting. George R.R. Martin recently shared an update, and while he’s making progress, it’s not happening as quickly as he’d like."I have to finish the books. That's the one thing I'm completely in control of," Martin told Collider. "There's no budget limitations. There's no other executives on the studio side that I have to please, or other writers with different views. The books are what I'm going to make them. And, I think the one I'm writing is coming pretty well, but I wish it would come faster."Well, he could always just take more time to write it. It’s been over a decade since A Dance with Dragons hit shelves in 2011, and at one point, The Winds of Winter was expected to follow in 2016. That… obviously didn’t happen. Meanwhile, Game of Thrones wrapped up in 2019, long before the next book could provide any guidance. And here we are, eight years after that initial 2016 target, still refreshing Martin’s blog in hope of a release date. While The Winds of Winter remains unfinished, Martin’s stories continue to thrive on screen. HBO is now working on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a series based on his Dunk and Egg novellas. Set about a century before Game of Thrones, it follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire, Egg. Martin seems pleased with how it's shaping up:Martin said of the project: "It’s as faithful as an adaptation as a reasonable man could hope for (and you all know how incredibly reasonable I am on that particular subject).”HBO is also developing House of the Dragon Season 3, which should premiere sometime this year. So, while we wait, and wait, and wait for The Winds of Winter, at least there's still new Westeros content on the way.
