“Devil May Cry” Renewed For Season 2

Netflix’s animated series “Devil May Cry,” based on Konami’s celebrated video game series, is set to return for a second season.

Former “Power Rangers” star turned incredibly prolific voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch will return as the voice of Dante for the new season with fellow cast mates Scout Taylor-Compton, Hoon Lee and Chris Coppola also likely to return.

The renewal order comes just one week after the show launched on Thursday April 3rd. Reviews for the Studio Mir-produced series were strong with a 78/100 on Metacritic and a 95% (7.7/10) on Rotten Tomatoes.

According to What’s On Netflix, the series launched to 5.3 million views in its first four days. That’s behind “Sonic Prime” (7.5M) but ahead of “Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight” (4.7M) and decidedly ahead of both “Castlevania: Nocturne” (2.6M) and “Masters of the Universe: Revolutions” (1.5M).

That said, CBM reports that fans have taken issue with the series in some responses with criticisms over character and storyline deviations from the games, and some political theme incorporation.

“Castlevania” anime producer Adi Shankar serves as the creator, showrunner, and executive producer of the animated series which he and Alex Larsen have been working on for years.

In the series, sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.
