Dave Filoni Teases “All Out” War in AHSOKA Season 2, So Brace Yourselves

The Star Wars Celebration in Japan was a buffet of exciting announcements for fans, and there was a lot of stuff shared and confirmed forAhsoka Season 2.

Hayden Christensen was confirmed to return to play Anakin Skywalker, General Ackbar will be facing off with Grand Admiral Thrawn in battle, and Rory McCann was confirmed to be playing Baylan Skoll. There was also a teaser screened featuring concept art from the new season!

Now, Dave Filoni is promising fans something we’ve all been starving for… an actual all-out Star Wars war.

Filoni teased: “I'll just say what it is ‘cause they came all this way, and I know what they really want to talk about which is what's in season two.

“So, half of it is a really really big battle. There is going to be a war in our Star Wars. Like an all out, throwdown on a scale as best as I can do it, as best as Jon and I can afford it because we want that.”

An “all out, throwdown.” After years of more personal, low-stakes storytelling in live-action Star Wars, Filoni is promising something big and explosive, and it’s coming in the first half of Season 2.

Of course, this chaos won’t be happening without the return of familiar faces. Filoni confirmed that the story will pick up with Thrawn, Ezra, and Hera back in the thick of it. Not to mention the galaxy’s sassiest droid, Chopper, and everyone's favorite purple brute Zeb, who’s officially stepping into the live-action spotlight.

“And Thrawn will be involved. We will see a lot more of him. You'll see a lot more of Ezra. You'll see a lot more of Hera, is going to get back into it. And she'll be much more directly part of the action.

“Because you guys made such a big deal about it, I put a lot more Chopper in. And then because you guys asked for it and because Jon's been playing with him so much and I want my toy back, we put Zeb in Ahsoka.”

It’s pretty clear that Filoni and Favreau are leaning fully into the ensemble magic that made Star Wars Rebels such a fan favorite. Season 2 is shaping up to be a big-screen-worthy Rebels reunion… with massive space warfare.

Rosario Dawson is back as Ahsoka, joined by Natasha Liu Bordizzo (Sabine Wren), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Hera), Diana Lee Inosanto (Morgan Elsbeth), Ivanna Sakhno (Shin Hati), and Eman Esfandi (Ezra).

David Tennant returns as Huyang, with Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Rory McCann stepping in to carry on the role of Baylan Skoll, following the late Ray Stevenson.

Filoni is once again writing and executive producing the series, alongside Favreau, and Kathleen Kennedy, with Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa among the returning directors, with more expected to join the battlefield for Season 2.

Ahsoka Season 2 drops in 2026.
