The Egyptian theater in Hollywood is continuing its monthly screening series in association with the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. And March’s is a doozy.

On March 26, Brad Bird, who took home LAFCA’s prize for Best Animation for his first three animated features as a director (“The Iron Giant,” “The Incredibles” and “Ratatouille”), will be on hand for a special double feature of “The Iron Giant” and Pixar’s “The Incredibles.” In between the movies, there will be a Q&A moderated by LAFCA member and film critic Peter Debruge.

The screening is part of a celebration of LAFCA’s 50th anniversary with “each film selected for this series in 2025 representing a unique choice made by the organization at its annual vote.” Often, these are chosen to highlight specific titles that “stand apart from the preordained frontrunners of awards season.”

Bird, of course, is one of the true visionaries of modern animation. He started his career at Walt Disney Animation, where he contributed to a number of projects but chaffed against the stifling corporate culture. Bird then worked for Steven Spielberg, adapting a Tim Burton concept into an episode of “Amazing Stories” called “Family Dog” and co-writing another episode. (“Batteries Not Included,” which Bird co-wrote, was born of an abandoned “Amazing Stories” episode.)

He then worked on the first eight seasons of “The Simpsons” (largely considered the golden era of the show) and directed the “Do the Bartman” music video, later working on “The Critic” and “King of the Hill,” before directing his first feature, “The Iron Giant,” released in 1999. A truly wondrous debut, the movie was being produced at a time when Warner Bros. Animation was shutting its doors; he barely made it out alive. He later joined Pixar, under his dear friend John Lasseter, where he made 2004’s “The Incredibles,” 2007’s “Ratatouille” (taking over for Jan Pinkava) and, later, 2018’s “Incredibles 2.”

Bird also directed two live-action features – “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” in 2011 and “Tomorrowland” in 2015, proving that he was just as compelling and quick-witted a filmmaker in any medium.
