Alan Wake II has finally started turning a profit for Remedy Entertainment. In the latest financial update, Remedy announced that not only has Alan Wake II surpassed 2 million in sales, but has also begun to accrue royalties for the company. This update comes after the previous fiscal reports back in November that stated that Alan Wake II had recouped all of its development costs, and had sold 1.8 million units across PC and consoles.
It certainly took a bit of time for the follow-up to the 2010 original to break even, even after it had become Remedy’s fastest-selling title when the game launched back in October 2023.
October saw particularly high activity around Alan Wake II,” says Remedy CEO Tero Virtala. “Remedy and Epic Games launched the Lake House expansion to Alan Wake II to a positive reception on October 22. This coincided with the release of the physical retail edition of the Alan Wake II Deluxe Edition. In November, with the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro, Remedy released a Pro-specific update for Alan Wake II and multiple updates to improve the quality of the title across all platforms. At the end of the fourth quarter, Alan Wake II had recouped and reached the milestone of two million units sold.”
As for other games in development at Remedy, FBC: Firebreak continues its production after the development team successfully conducted a closed technical test with external players. The game is slated to arrive later this year. Meanwhile, Control 2 has been finalizing its production readiness stage and will enter full production later this month. Finally, Max Payne 1&2 Remake is “making steady progress” in full production, with the projected heading towards “key development objectives.”
