Back in 2020 (which seems about a decade ago), Aeroplan refreshed its program. As part of that process, it added the ability for members to create family accounts allowing them to pool their points with other members. After a couple of years, Aeroplan suspended that Family Sharing program due to what it considered to be “rampant” abuse.
Today, Aeroplan announced that Family Sharing is once again open for new enrollments, allowing up to eight people to share points with each other.
Aeroplan Family Sharing Details
Here are the basic details of Aeroplan’s Family Sharing groups:
- Up to 8 “verified” family members can be in one group together
- All points earned by members are added into a shared balance, including their existing points balances
- Members with redemption privileges can redeem points from the shared balance
- If you have an Elite Status Member or a primary Aeroplan Credit Cardholder in your group, everyone gets to benefit from their preferred pricing (meaning that you can often redeem for Air Canada flights at reduced award prices)
It seems that the only condition that Aeroplan has added is a proviso that “an additional identity verification step will be required to provide extra protection against unauthorized use under the terms of the program.”

Quick Thoughts
It’s great to see Aeroplan’s Family Sharing come back. It seems like the only addition is a warning that “family” members might require verification, undoubtedly to try and guard against the abuse that was happening previously.
The rest of the details remain the same including the ability for all eight members of a sharing pool to benefit from the access to reduced pricing on awards of any other member who holds the Aeroplan card.
