Accor and AccorInvest are in talks with Fortress to sell the Hotel1 brand and the properties for the American investment fund  Fortress for more than 200 million euros.

Accor founded the Formule 1 ultra-budget chain with shared bathrooms in 1985, which was later renamed hotelF1. The brand has lost momentum recently but has 130 properties open in France.

You can access Accor’s page for hotelF1 here.

Accor has another budget hotel brand, ibis Budget, which it has expanded recently and is aligned with the ibis and Ibis Styles brands.

AccorInvest, a separate company in which Accor owns a 30% stake, would sell the hotelF1 properties it owns for 200 million euros, and Accor would sell the hotelF1 brand for an additional 20 million euros.

HotelF1 properties appear on the rate search on Accor’s website and app, but they are not ALL participating.

Conclusion

These hotelF1, previously Formule F1, properties appear to be in the super budget category, and they likely don’t meet the requirements that travelers in 2025 expect, such as private bathrooms.

Accor has prioritized the development of the ibis Budget brand over this hotelF1, and it is probably better to offload it to an outside company that is better equipped to handle it future.
